A little more Quack!

I know you need more Quackers, right? How could you not love the duck featured in the April 2012 issue of Shelby County Life magazine? In the article (p. 32, Quackers: Surviving Against All Odds) owner Rebecca Craig talks about Quackers' bathtime, indoor playtime, and love of the television show "American Idol."
Well, see for yourself!
Enjoy these additional photos below, taken by Cheryl Van Stockum.

Play On!

Now showing (almost) at the Shelby County Community Theatre it's Play On! written by Rick Abbot and directed by Iverson Warriner.  It's described as a hilarious story of a theater group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty authoress who keeps revising the script.

Sponsored by Commonwealth Bank and Trust and Village Plaza Shopping Center. Show dates are April 13-15, and 20-22. Call the theater for tickets: 502-633-0242.

An ugly duckling, the infamous Herdman clan, and so much more

One of my favorite times of the year is when Shelby County Community Theatre announces its new season, in part because our son often acts in the children's shows, and in part because, well, it's great theater. We really are fortunate to have such an amazing theater in our community.

That said, the 2012-2013 season has been unveiled!

The Mainstage Series:
  • A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum by Stephen Sondheim, Burt Shevelove, and Larry Gelbart - July 20-22, 27-29, 2012
  • Honk! Jr. (Children’s Show) by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe - September 21-23, 28-30, 2012
  • The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson - November 30 – December 2, December 7-9, 2012
  • Harvey (tentative) by Mary Chase - February 15-17, 22-24, 2013
  • The Diviners by Jim Leonard Jr. - April 19- 21, 26-28, 2013
  • An Evening of Culture by Mark Landon Smith - May 31-June 2, June 7-9, 2013
Upstairs at 801:
Proof  by David Auburn - October 12 & 13, 2012
Eleemosynary by Lee Blessing - March 15 & 16, 2013

There are lots of ways to save $ at the theater, including 15% off individual ticket prices by purchasing a season ticket package. Call 502-633-0242 for more information.

Funky fun upstairs at the theater

About 80 people showed up to the Shelby County Community Theatre's (Upstairs) alcohol-free St. Patrick's Day event - and on a night when UK and U of L were playing. It was "Reginald Bareham's Funky Ground H2O Bluegrass Brass Belly Dancing Variety Show."

Sounds like a mouthful? Well, check out these photographs by Cheryl Van Stockum - it certainly was a roomfull of entertainment! Cheryl, by the way, is Reggie Bareham himself's better half.

The Prologuers  Group was created as an opening act for "The Homecoming," (past theatre show) - a real crowd favorite.  Reggie, James Ray Morgan, Jerry Deaton, Cook Farmer, Dan Crutcher.
Melinda Mathis Hardin   (Lewis's sister -- hometown girl with one of the loveliest voices of the night - you'll see Lewis below).

Little Kelsey was inspired by the singing and ask to come up.

Shelby County locals -- Barbara Carter and  Lewis Mathis.

Sisters Beth Pauler and Faith Muller, both from Louisville. Muller has acted on the Shelby County Community Theatre stage several times.

Shelby County Native and now NYC resident Thomas Van Stockum sang several original tunes.

And then the Belly Dancer appeared (Faith Matthews Muller).

Chocolate fondue - a birthday twist at CJ's Candies

Photos courtesy of CJ's Candies
Are you looking for a creative birthday party location? Look no further than downtown Shelbyville and CJ's Candies!

Carolyn and John rent out their party room at the back of the store, and can provide delectable goodies such as a chocolate fountain fondue, homemade candies, and ice cream treats.  It's an attractive yet small space, with a fireplace and tables. You provide the decorations, and can bring in your own elements to suit your party
theme.

Our family hosted a chocolate fondue party for our 9-year-old daughter and her friends. Our daughter has a nut and peanut allergy, and Carolyn was very willing and able to accommodate our food limitations. She worked with us to set a menu that young girls would enjoy. At the end of the event, each guest received a trip to CJ's candy room to
fill their party-bags with penny candy.

If you're looking for a place that is nearby, which offers a fun alternative to traditional birthday parties at a reasonable price, support one of our local merchants and book an event at CJ's Candies.
